Background
The Arkansas Workforce Center is a collaboration of local, state, private, and public entities that provide comprehensive and innovative employment services and resources to meet the needs of the Arkansas workforce. As part of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), a network of career centers was established throughout the country to enable individuals to find the help they need in the areas of job training, employment services, and other related support services, in one location. Over the last decade, these centers have assisted Arkansans manage their careers, and Arkansas employers in their search for skilled workers and in building their workforce.
The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law on July 22, 2014 and replaced the Workforce Investment Act. WIOA is landmark legislation that is designed to strengthen and improve our nation's public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.
